The Crisis in Local Journalism: Are Nonprofits the Answer?
On Tuesday, November 19th, the New York State Bar Association will host a seminar on “The Crisis in Local Journalism: Are Nonprofits the Answer?” Attorney Jennifer Borg will be a panel member at the seminar. The forum will focus on the possibilities and limitations of nonprofit journalism as a means of filling the gap left by the decline in traditional journalism outlets.
Program: As the traditional business model for local news media has become harder to sustain in a digital marketplace, nonprofits are being asked to play a larger role in the news industry. They have included specialized news outlets dealing with topics like climate change and social justice, investigative journalism nonprofits and smaller entities covering local communities in the way that for-profit dailies once did.
