Attorney Joe Hayden Quoted in Article on the Dangers of Sting Operations
Pashman Stein Walder Hayden Attorney Joe Hayden was quoted in the in the NJ.com article “Long-secret FBI files reveal failed 1991 sting that targeted powerful N.J. congressman.” The article explains how an undercover sting operation of Rep. Robert A. Roe concluded that he was an unwitting victim of a scheme and was never accused of any wrongdoing.
“The danger of sting operations is that they can morph from a legitimate investigation into entrapment,” said criminal defense attorney Joseph Hayden Jr., a former prosecutor who has raised concerns in the past about cooperating witnesses seeking to run up a conviction “body count” as a get-out-of-jail-free card for their own transgressions with the law.
Although he did not know the circumstances of the investigation involving Roe, Hayden recalled that the former congressman “had an impeccable reputation, but had a big name.”
