CJ Griffin, Director of the Justice Gary S. Stein Public Interest Center at Pashman Stein Walder Hayden, was quoted in the NorthJersey.com article, “Clifton's Valley Road hotel project is back before the Planning Board. Here's what changed.” The article discusses Sunshine Law concerns in regard to a closed-door settlement by the Clifton planning board and Meridia Regency that was not discussed or voted on in public.
"Although public agencies can discuss certain matters behind closed doors, they are not supposed to take action there or enter into secret settlement agreements," said CJ Griffin, a partner in Pashman Stein Walder Hayden, P.C.
"Too frequently we see public agencies violating the Sunshine Law without any repercussions, and it deprives the public of their right to participate in their government," Griffin said.
