CJ Griffin Discusses the Attorney General’s Major Discipline Report with Gothamist
CJ Griffin, partner and director of the Justice Gary S. Stein Public Interest Center at Pashman Stein Walder Hayden P.C., was recently interviewed by Gothamist in an article titled, “460 NJ Law Enforcement Officers got ‘Major Discipline’ Last Year.” The article discusses the New New Jersey Attorney General’s 2023 Major Discipline Report, which details the discipline imposed upon 460 law enforcement officers last year.
CJ Griffin, who worked on a lawsuit that led to the release of these reports, noted that the data released to the public still needs improvements. For example, New Jersey’s discipline dashboard does not include pending cases and scant information is disclosed to the public.
“The descriptions are often vague,” said Griffin. “When it says an officer was disciplined for an inappropriate post on Facebook or inappropriate comments in the workplace, I think we deserve to know more than that. Was it sexual harassment? Was it racism? The public deserves to know.”
