CJ Griffin Named to Board of Trustees of ACLU-NJ
We are pleased to announce that CJ Griffin, counsel, has been named to the board of trustees of the American Civil Liberties Union of New Jersey (ACLU-NJ). Griffin is a litigator in the Access to Public Records practice at Pashman Stein, where she represents print and online media companies, commercial businesses, non-profit organizations, and open government activists in litigation under the New Jersey Open Public Records Act (OPRA).
The Board of Trustees of the ACLU-NJ is legally responsible for all the affiliate’s activities; the board determines affiliate policy and program direction and is responsible for its financial health. Board members take leadership roles in committees, special projects and fundraising; represent the Board and the ACLU-NJ to the general public through professional and social contacts; attend ACLU-NJ-sponsored events, and from time-to-time accept speaking engagements, appointments to coalitions, or make other public appearances at the request of the executive director or president.
According to Deb Guston, president of the board of trustees at the ACLU-NJ, “I am pleased and excited to have CJ Griffin join our board. CJ is an outstanding young attorney who has already provided the ACLU-NJ with valued legal services in our open public records work. Her commitment to civil rights and civil liberties will be highly valued by our board and members.”
Griffin also chairs the LGBT Rights Section of the New Jersey State Bar Association and serves on the New Jersey Law Journal’s Young Lawyer Advisory Board. In addition, she is also the author of numerous articles on LGBT workplace issues and open government issues and authors the Firm’s OPRA blog (www.njopra.com). She has authored amicus briefs on issues such as student bullying and the unconstitutional criminalization of profanity.
She earned a J.D. from Rutgers University School of Law and a B.S. from SUNY-Empire State College. She is admitted to practice in New Jersey, New York, and the U.S. District Court-District of New Jersey.
