CJ Griffin Quoted in Editorial on Denied OPRA Request in Trenton
CJ Griffin, Director of the Justice Gary S. Stein Public Interest Center at Pashman Stein Walder Hayden, was quoted by The Trentonian in its editorial, “Editorial: Trenton needs to stop playing games with the public's right to information.” The editorial discusses allegations a city clerk has made against a journalist who filed a lawful Open Public Records Act request request for some of the clerk’s emails.
Moreover, C.J. Griffin, an attorney and OPRA expert who represents The Trentonian, said Conlon’s request for the FBI to investigate his claims doesn’t qualify as a valid OPRA exemption.
"It should not take the hiring of special counsel to respond to a simple OPRA request for email correspondence, nor does the mere fact that someone has filed a complaint with the FBI render emails subject to any exemption," Griffin said.
