Judge Ellen L. Koblitz (Ret.) Quoted in Star-Ledger Article On Appointment of Presiding Appellate Division Judge Jose L. Fuentes to Hear Arguments in Supreme Court's Reconsideration of Murder Case
The Hon. Ellen L. Koblitz, P.J.A.D (Ret.), special counsel at Pashman Stein Walder Hayden, was quoted in the Star-Ledger article, “Judge may have final word in one of the biggest cold cases in N.J. history.” In what was described as the “highly unusual granting of a motion for reconsideration,” the New Jersey Supreme Court will reconsider its controversial 3-3 decision on whether the evidence was sufficient to convict Michele Lodzinski of the murder of her 5-year old son that took place decades ago. The Supreme Court tie upheld the Appellate Court ruling leaving the conviction intact. The article discusses the temporary assignment of Presiding Appellate Division Judge Jose L. Fuentes to the New Jersey Supreme Court to sit on this case.
“He did not grow up sheltered from the difficulties people have,” said retired Judge Ellen L. Koblitz, who for a time was a member of an Appellate Divisi on panel with Fuentes, before she was named an appellate presiding judge herself. Koblitz, who is now special counsel at Pashman Stein Walder Hayden, said Fuentes cared deeply about people and legal issues.
“He’s knowledgeable about the law. And knows about the real world,” she said.
