Pashman Stein Walder Hayden P.C. Announces Counsel Elevations for Darcy Baboulis-Gyscek, Monica Babula, and Howard Pashman

Pashman Stein Walder Hayden P.C. is pleased to announce that Darcy Baboulis-Gyscek, Monica Babula, and Howard Pashman have been elevated from Associate to Counsel, effective January 1, 2025.

Darcy Baboulis-Gyscek

Darcy is a member of the firm’s Litigation and Appellate Advocacy practices.  She has appeared on behalf of clients in New Jersey state courts, including the Superior Court, Chancery Division, and cases admitted to the Complex Business Litigation Program, and has argued several appeals before the New Jersey Supreme Court on behalf of amicus curiae.

Darcy represents clients in complex contract disputes with experience in cases seeking specific performance and other distinctive remedies. Her work spans highly regulated industries such as banking and insurance and includes cases involving multi-million-dollar real property and commercial leasing disputes. These cases often entail novel legal arguments, questions of first impression, and challenging procedural posture. Additionally, Darcy represents clients in corporate governance and fiduciary litigation, shareholder oppression matters, business tort cases such as unfair competition, tortious interference, and fraud.

Darcy was appointed by the Supreme Court of New Jersey as a member of District Ethics Committee II-A. On behalf of the Committee, Darcy investigates, presents, and evaluates potential violations of the Rules of Professional Conduct.

Darcy earned her J.D. cum laude from Seton Hall University School of Law, where she was a member of the Appellate Advocacy Moot Court Board and an editor for the Seton Hall Circuit Review. She received her B.A. in Government and Law from Lafayette College.

Darcy’s recent accolades include selection for inclusion in the list of New Jersey Super Lawyers, Rising Stars, 2024 and in the list of Best Lawyers, Ones to Watch, Commercial Litigation 2024-25.

Monica Babula

Monica Babula is a member of the firm’s Trusts & Estates and Elder Law practices. Monica represents individuals and institutions who seek assistance in various trust and estate planning, administration and litigation matters as well as guardianship litigation matters. Additionally, Monica has experience as court appointed counsel and court appointed temporary guardian in guardianship matters and as court appointed administrator of estate administration matters for multi-million-dollar estates. Monica is also the author of numerous articles discussing existing and potential changes in trust and estate and guardianship regulations that are intended on keeping clients informed. She understands the complexity of such matters, both the legal and emotional impacts they may have, and works with clients using a relatable approach.

Prior to joining Pashman Stein Walder Hayden, Monica was an attorney for the Hudson County Surrogate’s Office. She clerked for the Honorable Marybeth Rogers, J.S.C., Superior Court of New Jersey, Civil and Chancery Division. Monica earned her Juris Doctorate from Seton Hall University School of Law, where she received the William E. Garland Memorial Scholarship. During law school, Monica was a member of the Mock Trial Board, and she was student attorney for the Immigrants’ Rights/International Human Rights Clinic. She received her Bachelor of Science in International Business from The College of New Jersey. 

Howard Pashman

Howard is a member of the firm’s Litigation, Criminal Defense, and Investigations practice areas, representing individual and corporate clients in all types and phases of commercial litigation and white-collar criminal defense. He represents individuals and companies across a variety of industries, including higher education institutions, public entities, national restaurant chains, industrial conglomerates, and financial institutions. Domestic and international clients rely on Howard for complex, high-stakes litigation and investigations, appreciating his diligence and his poise in the courtroom, which he has earned by appearing in State and Federal trial and appellate courts throughout New Jersey, New York, and Illinois.

Howard is also committed to protecting the rights of the criminally accused and those who cannot afford an attorney through his active pro bono practice. Howard has served as designated counsel for the New Jersey Office of the Public Defender in representing defendants in appeals from criminal convictions. He also represents clients through the U.S. District Court for the District of New Jersey’s ReNew Program to help those recently released from Federal custody resolve legal issues that arise during their incarceration. Howard has also represented the Association of Criminal Defense Lawyers-New Jersey as amicus curiae before the New Jersey Appellate Division and Supreme Court. In addition, Howard has represented clients pro bono in appeals related to academic freedom and free speech.   

Prior to joining Pashman Stein Walder Hayden, P.C., Howard practiced commercial litigation in Chicago, where he represented individual and corporate clients in all phases of litigation. Before practicing law, Howard earned a PhD in American History and wrote a book on the legal history of the American Revolution, Building a Revolutionary State: The Legal Transformation of New York, 1776-1783, published by the University of Chicago Press. Howard has taught a variety of college courses in American history and legal history.
