Overview
Howard is counsel at the firm, where he practices in all types and phases of commercial litigation and white-collar criminal defense. He represents individuals and companies across a variety of industries, from higher education institutions and public entities to national restaurant chains, from industrial conglomerates to financial institutions. Domestic and international clients rely on Howard for complex, high-stakes litigation and investigations because of his diligence and his poise in the courtroom, which he has earned by appearing in State and Federal trial and appellate courts throughout New Jersey, New York, and Illinois.
Howard is also committed to protecting the rights of the criminally accused and those who cannot afford an attorney through his active pro bono practice. Howard has served as designated counsel for the New Jersey Office of the Public Defender in representing defendants in appeals from criminal convictions. He also represents clients through the U.S. District Court for the District of New Jersey’s ReNew Program to help those recently released from Federal custody resolve legal issues that arise during their incarceration. Howard has also represented the Association of Criminal Defense Lawyers-New Jersey as amicus curiae before the New Jersey Appellate Division and Supreme Court. In addition, Howard has represented clients pro bono in appeals related to academic freedom and free speech.
Prior to joining Pashman Stein Walder Hayden, P.C., Howard practiced commercial litigation in Chicago, where he represented individual and corporate clients in all phases of litigation. Before practicing law, Howard earned a PhD in American History and wrote a book on the legal history of the American Revolution, Building a Revolutionary State: The Legal Transformation of New York, 1776-1783, published by the University of Chicago Press. Howard has taught a variety of college courses in American history and legal history.
